State Authorizations

As a condition of receiving federal student aid, institutions of higher education must either be authorized or exempt from seeking authorization in the states in which they offer education either in person or at a distance, such as through online education. Additionally, individual states may impose certain restrictions on distance education providers that have not first sought authorization to offer distance education to their residents. Please click your state below to learn about IU Online’s authorization status in your state.

IU Online programs are authorized in [state] through continued membership in the State Authorization Reciprocity Agreement (SARA). More information about SARA can be found here.

Indiana University, as a public, nationally accredited, degree-granting institution, is currently exempt from seeking authorization for its online programs in [state]. The Office of Online Education will seek authorization if it becomes necessary in the future.
