Composition studies is the theory and practice of writing instruction, especially as it is practiced in composition courses at the high-school and university levels.

The IU Online Graduate Certificate in Composition Studies offers graduate-level education in composition studies for those who teach English at the high-school or post-secondary level, or for those who want to teach writing at the community-college or university level but do not hold an MA in English. Course topics cover stylistics, issues in teaching writing, teaching college writing, advanced argumentative writing, and rhetoric and composition.
