As a 100% online certificate, classes are flexible and work with your schedule. We want you to become a leader by providing high-quality, convenient, and relevant classes that help you succeed.
Don't have a lot of relevant CS experience? No problem. This certificate can serve a wide range of students, including:
- Students new to computer science instruction who need to master the fundamentals of CS
- Self-taught teachers already teaching foundational computer science classes, who wish to integrate new concepts and approaches into their teaching while broadening and deepening their overall CS knowledge
- CS instructors with a master’s degree in education or other related fields who want to improve their CS skills in specific areas while meeting HLC certification standards
For admission to the Graduate Certificate in Computer Science program, you must have the following:
- Bachelor’s degree
- Transcripts for each undergraduate institution attended
- 3.0 GPA (on 4.0 scale)
- 250-word personal statement explaining background and reasons for entering the program
This certificate is stackable with the M.A.T. in Computer Science and can help you gain the necessary credits to become a dual-credit instructor or set you up for your next steps of earning an M.A.T.
Career outcomes include:
- Community and two-year college instruction
- Four-year college instruction
- AP and college-credit high school instruction
To complete the certificate, you need to complete the 18 hours of Computer Science coursework (6 classes).
If you already hold a master's degree in a discipline other than computer science, you can meet HLC standards by completing the Graduate Certificate in Computer Science. If not, you can go on to complete the M.A.T. in Computer Science.
The stackable structure of the M.A.T. in Computer Science is ideal for high school and community college educators wanting to teach dual-credit courses, or for high school educators wanting to teach at the community college level. This program is designed to help you meet Higher Learning Commission dual-credit qualification standards. These standards require teachers wanting to teach dual-credit courses in computer science to hold either a master's degree in computer science or a master's degree in another discipline (such as education), plus at least 18 credit hours of discipline-specific graduate coursework.
