As a student in the IU Online Graduate Certificate in EFL/ESL Teacher Training, you’ll take coursework in instruction and assessment approaches and in language policy and planning. You’ll also complete a practicum in literacy, culture, and language education. Additional coursework emphasizes leadership and mentorship.

To be accepted to this program, you must have:
- A bachelor's degree
- 2.7 GPA or above on a 4.0 scale

Your IU Online Graduate Certificate in EFL/ESL Teacher Training prepares you to work with non–English speaking learners in such settings as:
- Elementary, secondary, and post-secondary levels in private or public schools
- Life skills, literacy, or vocational training programs
- Nonprofit organizations
- Private tutoring companies
- International business settings
To earn the Graduate Certificate in EFL/ESL Teacher Training, you must complete 12 credit hours. Requirements are broken down as follows:
- EFL/ESL teacher training core courses (9 credit hours)
- EFL/ESL teacher training elective course (3 credit hours)
NOTE: If you choose to pursue the IU Online M.S. in Literacy, Culture, and Language Education, these certificate courses may apply to your degree requirements. Completion of the certificate program does not guarantee admission to the graduate program.
