The IU Online Master of Public Health with a concentration in interdisciplinary public health studies provides a broad foundation for tackling today’s complex public health problems. Courses cover such topics as social and behavioral science, the US healthcare system, epidemiology, environmental health science, global health, biostatistics, and disease prevention.
This program has flexible options you can choose from to best meet your career and personal goals on your schedule. You can choose from:
- The accelerated, 100 percent online program built on eight-week courses and a streamlined Interdisciplinary MPH concentration.
- The online program built on 16-week traditional courses that allows students to focus on a specific concentration such as epidemiology, public health informatics, policy, financial management, research, health promotion and disease prevention, and health disparities and health equity.
- The in-person/hybrid program built on 16-week traditional on-campus courses that allows students to engage in on-campus extracurriculars and focus on a specific concentration.

Degree Requirements
To earn the MPH in Interdisciplinary Public Health Studies, you must complete 45 credit hours.
Requirements are broken down as follows:
- Core courses (18 credit hours)
- Concentration courses (12 credit hours)
- Electives (9 credit hours)
- Practical experience* (internship, capstone) (6 credit hours)
- Certified in Public Health exam
- You must complete a 240-hour internship in a public health organization or agency under the supervision of a preceptor. This is about 15 to 20 hours per week if completed within one semester. You work on objectives developed with your preceptor and create two digital products. The final products are flexible in format and should be meaningful to the experience and the organization.
