IU Online’s Bachelor of Science in Spanish offers a rigorous curriculum that develops your language proficiency, cultural facility, and professional competence in Spanish.

The tracks allow you to apply your command of the Spanish language and knowledge of Hispanic culture in a variety of real-world settings.
This 100 percent online program is taught by IU East, IUPUI, IU Kokomo, IU Northwest, IU South Bend, and IU Southeast.

Employment opportunities in the fields of Spanish are expected to continue growing well above average for the next 10 years at the state, regional, and national level. Your IU Online BS in Spanish prepares you to work in such positions as:

If you decide to pursue an advanced degree, the solid liberal arts foundation and suite of core Spanish coursework will prepare you for admission to a wide variety of professional graduate programs.
To earn a Bachelor of Science in Spanish, you must complete 120 credit hours. You may transfer up to 60 previously earned credit hours.
Requirements are broken down as follows:

Capstone course (3 credit hours)
Track courses (18 credit hours)
General education and elective courses (as needed to total 120 credit hours)
Students who meet the admission standards of their home campus will be admitted directly into the BS in Spanish.
Application Dates
Rolling admissions. Application review will begin upon receipt of all required application materials.
You can transfer up to 64 credit hours from a regionally accredited community college, or 90 credit hours from an accredited four-year university or college.
Christine Taff
Christine Taff is senior lecturer in Spanish, and associate director of the Latinos Unidos: Hispanic Center at IU Kokomo. Her scholarship has appeared in Currents in Teaching and Learning, MERLOT Journal of Online Learning and Teaching, and New Hibernia Review. She is a reviewer for Creative Practices in Language Learning and Teaching. She has presented at conferences in the US, Spain, and Ireland.
Representative courses: Introduction to Spanish Literature, Second Year Spanish.

Tammy Fong-Morgan
Tammy Fong-Morgan is associate professor of Spanish in the department of world language studies at IU South Bend. She earned a PhD in contemporary Spanish American literature at the University of Michigan, Ann Arbor. She teaches all levels of Spanish language, writing, literature, and culture. Her research interests include Latinx young adult fiction, second language acquisition, and language learning for professions. She developed the Costa Rica summer abroad program for Indiana University, is a member of the IU Faculty Academy for Excellence in Teaching (FACET), and was director of the University Center for Excellence in Teaching at IU South Bend. Her scholarship has appeared in multiple books and journals.
“I use the online environment to help students vividly imagine themselves in the world. I integrate technology as they use it in real life. For my course Food in the Hispanic World, they research recipes and holidays, and food traditions of specific regions. For Cities of the Spanish-Speaking World, they create itineraries, travel diaries, and learn to make fake selfies so they can post pics of their travels. Finally, in Stories of Fantasy and Terror, they explore legends and folktales. I encourage students to express their personal preferences and experiences while learning the language.”
